a plum a plumb aplomb

Lately I've been trying to decide what this blog is about and I think it is about the how happy it makes me to see the beauty in everyday life. Lately for whatever reason this has been harder. I like this photo because It captures pretty well how I am feeling right now. Everything around me is still and I am just sort of blurry. The door is open, but I'm not even going anywhere. Perhaps next will be a list of resolutions, or maybe I will just take photos of actually everything I see. Something to get me out the door.

Being Sneaky

I sat across from this man on the subway the other day and he is what I see when I think urban cowboy. The faded jeans and worn suede jacket go perfectly with reading glasses and a copy of the New Yorker. People like him make me wonder if they know that they look great, if they would even be flattered, or if had he known I was taking his picture he would have glared at me with as much disdain as he did with those damn kids listening to their loud rap music.

I can't compete with California

To:From:Climbing the dunes of Abbott's Lagoon in Point Reyes reminded me of the realities that you create for yourself as a kid. Seeing the endless expanse of sand exported me to the Sahara. In a weekend I became a world traveler to a land where the beaches never end. It reminds me of the time I drove our Previa through a lake- its ok, no one drowned.

Stormy Weather

When PG&E fails you and it is actually darker inside than outside, that is when it is appropriate to knit by candlelight.

more on the desert

because the desert is beautiful. and for those of you who have wondered "where is this desert?" for all of the 16 years you have known me (ahem jessica)- it is the mojave and the closest town is pioneer town, it is near the shithole 29 palms and the beautiful joshua tree national park

scenes from the desert

Up top is our old outhouse, which is being torn down and replaced by a brand new composting toilet. I now know more about composting toilets than I ever wanted to. When I wasn't playing lumberjack I was knitting and reading and going on hikes with a certain special someone- no, not you dad.
