Prediction: Barbour for Non-Preps

I'm trying out a new segment where I predict styles or trends that I think are about to or should gain momentum. The first is Barbour jackets for non-preppy people. The waxed cotton jackets are already popular amongst Brits and proud East-coasters, but as Ashley Olsen shows they can look easygoing and cool coast to coast. At least I hope they do because I've been wearing one all winter.

A Proenza Schouler Valentine

The ultimate gift for Valentine's Day indeed. That would be one very lucky girl.

Prada Spring 2012-Inspired Nails

In order to attempt the holy grail that is Prada runway I had to bring out the big guns: Migi Nail Art Pens. The superfine tip on these pens are the ultimate tool for highly detailed nail designs. I left the base of my nail clear (my go-to is Nail Magic) and created flames and geometric shapes of a mix of black, red, baby blue, yellow and white. The somewhat limited range of colors of the nail art pens worked perfectly with the retro glamour of Prada's Spring 2012 collection. Its a fine line between rockabilly and runway, but these were definitely fun to wear.

In the photos I'm wearing my neon camping bracelet and J Brand Terra Cotta skinnies.

Haircut Inspiration: Freja Beha Erichsen Vol. 2

I keep coming back to Freja's easygoing cuts for inspiration. All three ladies look fabulous and I guess, perfectly modelesque. I happened to see Freja this weekend and yep, her hair looked amazing.

Pinterest Pro Tip

If you're not on Pinterest yet, it's time to get on (and follow me at Pinterest.com/ebmonson)! I also found a cool way to view all Pins from a specific website. You can use it as an ego boost like I did above or for a cool way to see what the most popular images are from say, Madewell.com or NYTimes.com.

Simply use the following URL and switch out Moveslightly.blogspot.com with whatever URL you are interested in. http://pinterest.com/source/moveslightly.blogspot.com/

Need: Shark-Inspired Jewelry

Speaking of shark tooth jewelry...I'm obsessed. I've always loved the beachy feel, but thanks to Ricardo Tisci I can pretend it's high fashion too.

Clockwise: Fallon Jewelry Shark Attack NecklaceHidenSeek Shark Ring, Catbird Thorn Necklace, Pade Vivra Shark Tooth Necklace

I am aware that the Catbird Thorn isn't technically a shark tooth, but I have it and people always mistake it for one, so I figure it passes.

Givenchy Spring 2012-Inspired Nails

When I first saw Givenchy Spring 2012 runway I thought, "get me some shark teeth" first and then, "what the heck is on their eyes." It turned out to be one of the more innovative beauty looks of the season designed by makeup genius Pat McGrath. I recreated the silver half sequin look by painting a base coat of Essie Lady Like and then painting a half-circle at the tip with Chanel Kaleidoscope. I think it would look cool to just do the half-circle tip with a clear base as well.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

Natasha Poly makes the perfect pinup babe in Proenza Schouler's Spring 2012 ads. I couldn't resist posting these images even though they have been all over other fashion blogs, I love them that much.

I am also enamored with Tommy Ton's backstage photos from their spring/summer runway show. I think both show that when you are creating really high quality content as a brand (collections and imagery) people will talk. And boy do these guys know how to deliver the full package.

Nails Inc. Magnetic Nail Polish

I can't resist new nail polish treatments. First came matte shades, then crackle finishes, now magnetic polishes are ready to make a splash. This Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish is sold exclusively at Sephora and is a great way to experiment with nail art. The actual application is super simple. I did two coats of the polish and held the magnet end of the bottle cap over the second coat for a few seconds while still wet. The results were surprisingly awesome.

I actually bought an Estee Lauder magnetic polish when I was in college, but they seem to have avoided the mainstream for several years. The psychic in me would like to say that textured polishes will be next, but Jason Wu actually designed a Tweed-effect polish for CND last year that went largely unnoticed.
